Those of you awaiting your first bracket-buster in AAHS March Madness, wait no longer. The El Dorado Region started off quietly. 4-seed Jamaine Thomas advances to face 5-seed Will Sankey in the Young Bucks mini regional finale. The Phys Ed Department dominated the region, as Miss Buggey and Mrs. Yingling advanced, while Mr. Lingenfelter pulled the first 10-7 upset of the tournament. But the Juniata Region is where the real drama took place. The upset bug didn’t bite 3-seed Mrs. Curry or 6-seed Mr. Harber, nor did it affect 7-seed Mr. Frailey, who rode his full-color promo posters to victory. But then 15-seed Mr. Smith- the man of the people- pulled off a stunning upset over 2-seed and 2023 Champion, Mrs. Falger, by a razor thin 572-562 vote tally, or 0.8%. So, if you don’t think your vote matters, it does! A record 1,135 votes were cast on Day 3. Can we beat that tally for our last opening round games? Let’s do it!
Attention Astronomy Club and FLC: There will be a brief meeting today in the Planetarium from 2:50 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. Permission slips will be handed out for our large Pittsburgh field trip to end the school year on a high note. Any students unable to make it due to Drama Club or other engagements may pick up permission slips outside of the Planetarium beginning Friday. Hope to see you there!
Students and teachers, please be reminded of the AASD dress code with the onset of spring and warmer weather. Tops that expose the midriff, holes in jeans/pants as well as shorts and skirts above fingertip length are all violations of the dress code. Head coverings are not permitted once students enter the school building. Additionally, cell phones are to be turned off and in lockers during the school day, and earbuds are not permitted to be worn in the hallways. Many of these violations will be addressed at morning arrival, but anything that makes its way past arrival must be addressed by the homeroom teacher. In this case, students must be sent to the grade-level office. Thank you for your cooperation.
